Cooks Club

Every fall, I simmer a pot of water with some baking spices in it to fill my home with the scents of the season.

A sock filled with dry rice and some spices also makes for an aromatic heating pad. just microwave for 1 minute!

@Matt I love doing this also! It's a great way to use spices that may be a bit stale that I'd otherwise compost.

This is a brilliant idea. How much water and how much spice do you use to make your home smell lovely?

To be honest, I just kind of eyeball it. A few cinnamon sticks, anise and cardamom pods, some whole cloves, orange peels etc. I have an old 2-quart saucepan I use specifically for stovetop potpurri. I throw everything in and simmer it on the backburner. You just need to remember to turn it off when you’re not around!
