One of the most obvious hints of the era of the internet I grew up in is that I love a themed playlist. While I've moved on from 8tracks, I do still build playlists for specific situations, and my baking music playlist is one such example. The songs that end up on this playlist don't really follow a specific theme, other than being ones that I can sing along to, and tend to lean more high energy, rather than what my manager has referred to as my "sad girl music" (You put ONE Phoebe Bridgers song on a work playlist...). I think this is a holdover from working in professional kitchens, were you kind of have to listen to something loud and high energy, because you've been at work since 3:30AM and you need something to keep you awake, and the cup of mediocre drip coffee just isn't cutting it.
So, I ask you, what music do you put on your cooking playlists? Do you have a specific playlist for cooking, or do you just listen to whatever was already playing? Or are you a podcast/audiobook person?
Keeping in with my themed playlist origins, here are eight songs of my baking playlist.
- Red Wine Supernova by Chappell Roan
- Femme Hysteria by Haute & Freddy
- Princess of Power by MARINA
- Good Ol' Days by Hayley Williams
- Big Dog by Last Dinner Party
- Everybody Scream by Florence + The Machine
- 7563 by Florence Road
- Hard Times by Paramore
